Denham whisked Vihing away for a special Easter weekend break to a secret location. Vihing was instructed to plug in her earphones and listen to loud music throughout the check-in procedure. A tactic to avoid her gaining knowledge of our destination.  It worked, but Denham (with a big grin on his face) constantly had to explain to airport staff that Vihing was not acting "rude."  Vihing finally found out where we were flying to when we arrived at the departure gate.

VENICE....!!!!

It was a short plane ride through the skies.  The on board service was quite slow resulting in Vihing being denied her food and getting hungry.  Little did they know that:

Vihing + hunger = short temper

A mathematical formula that Denham knew, and he would have to remedy this ASAP. 

We landed in Venice - the most beautiful city surrounded by and afloat on the sea. After a water taxi ride we arrived at our plush hotel where Denham promptly arranged lunch. Phew!!! Now on with the romance.

Once checked in, we refreshed, put on our best clothes, and then went out to admire the Venetian sights.  After a visit to St Mark's Square, we took a water bus to San Giorgio Maggiore - a beautiful church across from St Mark's. How peaceful and beautiful. We ascended the bell tower to admire the most stunning views of Venice. Here, Denham proposed to Vihing on bended knee, presenting Vihing with a diamond solitaire ring, carefully chosen with the assistance of Vihing’s daughter, Shaquia.

Alas!! The ring was too big for Vihing’s finger – Shaquia had used her own ring finger to estimate the ring size.  It did not matter, the proposal was now complete.

Denham also prepared a padlock to memorialise the occasion. We fixed it to one of the window arches in the Bell Tower where the proposal took place.

We promised each other to return to this beautiful city and visit the place of our proposal.
